Recorded live at Martian Manor studios in 2012-13. All songs were recorded with stick, hand and foot, i.e. no sequencing, overdubs or pre-recorded loops. These songs were composed between 2010 and 2013 through a process of structured improvisation, primarily using the unique features of the Marimba Lumina. I composed a rough structure for each song, creating a Lumina setting in which each key/pad/ foot-switch is assigned to do a particular thing when struck or stroked with a particular mallet. This might be to play a note, control a sound's timbre or even assign a series of notes to another pad to be played by a different mallet.
Once I had created a setting on the Lumina, I developed that structure through improvisation in rehearsal & live performance over several years. So part of the credit for this material belongs to the places where I performed & the audience who listened & reacted to those performances.

Thanks to the venues which allowed me repeated performances over the years, including Atlanta's City Skies, Eyedrum, the Goat Farm, Asheville Electromusic, and MEME in Indianapolis.
Thanks to Chris Stack for the back photo and to Skinny Beats Drum shop and Gallery in Asheville for the location for the back photo.
Also thanks to Anne Cox for joining me in my life’s journey (& putting up with the endless tweeking of bleeps & buzzes that are a part being married to a composer).
